Hey Californian Where Are You???

“I know that the LORD secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy.” Psalm 140:12

Southern California is a beautiful place to live. Those of us who are fortunate to have homes nestled    between the lush, living Cleveland National Forest and the cool, deep, azure blue Pacific Ocean, are blessed beyond all human understanding.  Our neighbors vary from wild to domesticated creatures. Look around and see California is detailed with the lives of the ridiculously rich, those who are just getting by and the tragically poor. It is difficult to appreciate the multitude of reasons California suffers financial failure when taxes and energy rage like tumultuous brush fires. Still we are, some of us, fortunate.  No matter people may might think or feel about our state, there seems a continual working against stability as evidenced by political piety and wealth. The plight of our Homeless neighbors and neighbors who would be classified as the Working Poor appear to have no bearing on the thoughts of Californian’s most powerful. There is no outrage for our neighbors who are forced to sleep through nights under freeway overpasses, in business doorways and  on cold wet cement in 40 degree weather. There is no ire evident for the lives of real people like the  Nationally shared angst for Mountain Lions in Idaho http://www.cbs8.com/story/16977346/outrage-after-calif-fish-game-president-kills-cougar. Where are the good citizens who struggle to protect Homeless families like those who show admirable concern for the seals along the California coast? http://www.sealsitters.org/news/lajolla_rookery.html  There is no reason for us to ignore our neighbors whatever their situation other than we just don’t care. Lookout – the economic pendulum is swinging and your family could be next. It is long past the time for Californians to speak out and act against the trend of class bias that plagues this country. Tea Party members notwithstanding, each of us must be concerned for the needs of our neighbors before the tables turn, and turn they will; before more of us we are caught in the creep of impoverishment. Think about it.
